C2663 Hong Chao
The group spotted several members of the Ancient God Clan sprawled on the ground in the distance. They were all bleeding from their orifices and unconscious, clearly having fallen from a great height, with many partially embedded in the ground.
Among the group, someone with healing abilities stepped forward to try and revive one of them for questioning. Despite channeling their spiritual strength, the unconscious individuals remained unresponsive. A member of the God Clan, skilled in dark arts, approached and, after a careful examination, explained to the others.
"Their spiritual senses have been disrupted. Whatever force did this was powerful enough to affect even those at the Reincarnation Realm. Judging by their positions, the battle must have taken place just ahead."
The group rose and continued flying forward, soon discovering an area that seemed like a vacuum. The ground was sunken, and everything above had vanished, with the space still rippling.
Within this zone, they sensed five distinct presences of the God Clan, indicating that more than one adversary had faced the human elder here.
"Five presences! It seems they gathered here. Could it be that even five of them together couldn't defeat that elder?"
Hearing this speculation, the other members widened their eyes in disbelief.
"How is that possible? Each of them is at the Celestial Realm, powerful beings capable of traversing the starry seas. We lost so many Reincarnation Realm experts back then without even scratching them. How could five of them together not be a match for a human?"
"How do we explain this now?"
For a moment, everyone present fell silent. They could spot some bloodstains on the ground but found no bodies. They were certain that the space around them had collapsed earlier, leading to this situation. Such destruction could only be caused by a power exceeding the cycle of reincarnation, something the world's natural order couldn't withstand.
As the spiritual energy in the area gradually stabilized, the strength of the natural order filled the surroundings once more. The elder remained unseen, his whereabouts unknown. They extended their spiritual senses, but apart from the bloodstains, they couldn't detect any trace of the God Clan. It was unclear where they had gone or if the human elder had already eliminated them.
While they pondered this, a distant, unconscious figure slowly rose. Unlike the others, who bled from seven orifices, he bled from nine. This was because he was different; he had two additional silver eyes on his forehead, adorned with divine script, indicating he was a member of the Ancient God Clan, known for their mental prowess.
Seeing him rise, the group immediately flew over. Some helped stabilize his spiritual sense, while others tended to his injuries. They were eager to understand what had just transpired. The man, now fully conscious, glanced at the group before anxiously looking toward the battlefield. Upon seeing the situation, his face was filled with urgency.
"How's the battle going? What's the outcome?"
Hearing his question, the gathered cultivators frowned. They had hoped to get some news from this person, but it seemed he was just as in the dark about recent events.
The leader of the God Clan spoke up, "We just arrived here. Did you see anything? Is someone fighting against the Godslayer Clan?"
At this, the four-eyed member of the Ancient God Clan nodded eagerly, clearly excited.
"It seems you've heard the news too. When I arrived, a human expert was single-handedly holding off those Godslayer Clan cultivators, not giving an inch."
"Later, he even summoned an immortal treasure to attack them. The power of that celestial drum was overwhelming. We only heard a few beats before passing out. Even I, who specialize in refining spiritual sense, couldn't withstand its power. But that human expert was incredibly powerful, and it looked like he dealt with those guys. The space here was torn apart, almost completely shattered, but it's mostly restored now. Unfortunately, I don't know the final result."
"A celestial drum! Definitely a mysterious figure, carrying an immortal treasure with him."
The four-eyed Ancient God Clan member quickly added, "I heard that this big shot started chasing the Godslayer Clan from your Mountain of Gods. You guys arrived so late, underestimating that battle was a real loss for you. The power they wield is beyond our understanding, but it's been quite enlightening for us!"
The Ancient God Clan member grew increasingly excited, feeling as if they had narrowly escaped disaster. With the God-Slaying Clan defeated, the vast world would return to its original state. Given the Ancient God Clan's powerful bloodline, it wouldn't take more than ten thousand years for the world to reach its peak once again.
The leader of the God Clan, feeling somewhat reluctant, approached the battlefield and unleashed his power, calling into the void, "Elder, are you still here? Please show yourself. We wish to express our gratitude for your great kindness!"
He was eager to confirm the situation with the God-Slaying Clan, as he couldn't rest easy without concrete information.
Meanwhile, beyond the vast world's space, in the sea of stars, two figures stood. Surrounding them were five enormous corpses, each the size of a small mountain, adorned with different scales and emanating various spiritual energies. These were the lifeless bodies of the God-Slaying Clan, each with a sword wound on the head, marking their fatal injuries.
One of the figures was the elderly human who had just displayed immense power. The other was a rotund man with a small face, dressed in robes resembling the night sky, smiling at the elder.
"Old man Hong! You know the rule—share and share alike, right? It's rare to run into you out here."
The elder retorted, "Get lost! You've got plenty of treasures yourself. I've already planned what to do with these. If you try to take them, don't blame me for giving you a beating!"
"Ha! Fine, if you won't give it to me, forget it. What are you doing here, old man, instead of hiding out at the Sanctum Academy? It's odd to find such a rare artifact in a place like this. But with just a few creatures at the celestial level, you didn't need to step in personally. What's going on here?"
The old man was none other than Hong Chao, the head of Sanctum Academy. Normally quite upright, he seemed at ease with the chubby fellow, not bothering to hide his emotions. As he gathered up the bodies of the fallen, he responded.
"None of your business! But it's surprising to see you here, someone who never does anything without a profit. Do these small worlds still hold any allure for you?"
The chubby man replied, "How about we trade answers? That way, neither of us loses out!"
Just then, a faint voice echoed around them.
"Are you still here, sir? Please show yourself! We wish to repay your great kindness..."
The voice came from a leader of the God Clan, at the peak of the reincarnation realm, able to project his voice across space. Though suppressed, the two men heard it clearly.
"Hey, look, someone wants to thank you! Seems like it's a special being at the peak of reincarnation. Quite the impressive bloodline! Who knew this little place had such unique bloodlines? Did you come here to help these practitioners? Doesn't seem like your style. Aren't you usually only interested in young people, old man?"
Hong Chao clearly wasn't interested in engaging with him and instead communicated with the vast world.
"Those five beings have been taken care of. No need to talk about repayment; just remember my earlier warning: don't cause any more trouble!"
Inside the vast world, the ancient clan members who heard this news broke into smiles, overjoyed. The leader of the God Clan responded promptly, "Thank you for dealing with the beasts for us. We will heed your warning. However, I must share some news that might be useful to you. Our clans have no designs on the Nine Wildernesses. During our dormant phase, other groups invaded the Nine Wildernesses for the Innate Dao Fruit that emerged there. On behalf of our clans, I promise we won't set foot in the Nine Wildernesses again..."
Hearing this, Hong Chao was momentarily taken aback. He glanced warily at the chubby man beside him before responding to the God Clan with a simple, "Dismissed!"
After sending off the God Clan, Hong Chao turned to the chubby man. "You didn't hear anything just now, did you?"
The chubby man chuckled, "My ears are sharper than yours. Of course, I heard about the Innate Dao Fruit. How could I miss that?"
Hong Chao frowned, about to speak, but the chubby man interrupted. "Why are you so sensitive these days? I know about the Innate Dao Fruit and that little place called the Nine Wildernesses. Unfortunately, someone got to the fruit first and has already refined it. Even if I wanted it, there's no chance of getting it from them. I'm well aware of the power of the Innate Dao Fruit."
Upon hearing this, Hong Chao finally relaxed his furrowed brow. "Smart move. Otherwise, I'd love to see if my academy's restricted area could actually hold someone like you, a Venerable of the Void!"
"I know you're bored hanging around the academy, but don't get any ideas about me. That Nine Heavens Divine Bone in your treasury is something I really like. If I can't resist taking it, you'll definitely regret it."
Hong Chao gave him a knowing look and raised an eyebrow. "That Nine Heavens Divine Bone is in the most secure part of my treasury. I never mentioned it to anyone. Looks like you've sneaked in there, you rascal!"
"I was just curious, but I'm well aware of your strength, old man Hong. Even if I had a hundred lives, I wouldn't dare covet your treasures!"
Though Hong Chao was annoyed, he knew there was little he could do about this guy. They had known each other for years, and his methods were too unique. Truly restraining him was nearly impossible. Even Hong Chao himself, without prior preparation, wasn't confident he could capture him.
"Fine, I'll let it slide this time. But if anything happens to my academy's treasury in the future, your Void Clan will be held responsible."
The hefty man quickly responded, "No way! I wouldn't let my people cause trouble. But it's great to see you here. I actually have a favor to ask."
