C2597 Recovery!
Fang Xiang looked a bit resigned. "I was hoping to visit some more cool places with you, Jiang, but it seems that's not happening right now. Once I sort things out, I'll catch up with you."
Jiang Fann glanced toward the palace gates, where a formidable-looking man in armor was watching them. Though his demeanor was calm, there was an undeniable air of authority about him. He was clearly keeping an eye on Fang Xiang, though it was unclear if it was for protection or some other reason.
Jiang Fann chuckled, "Looks like the big shots have assigned you a bodyguard. I was going to suggest we grab a drink, but I guess that's off the table for now."
Fang Xiang understood what Jiang Fann meant and replied, "We could ignore him, but it's uncomfortable being watched. We'll have plenty of chances to hang out later."
The three of them chatted in front of the palace for a bit before Jiang Fann and Wan Chengfeng turned to leave. Fang Xiang had called them over to explain the situation, so they wouldn't wait too long outside the city.
As they had seen upon entering, the wanted notices had been completely removed, bringing an end to the year-long ordeal. Though Fang Xiang wanted to leave with Jiang Fann and the others, he was well aware of his current situation. He needed to weigh his options carefully. Staying to connect with some of the top cultivators wasn't a bad idea, and for now, he would take things one step at a time.
As for Jiang Fann and Wan Chengfeng, they didn't plan to stay long in the capital of the Heavenly Kingdom. Since Wan Chengfeng had already extended an invitation, Jiang Fann saw no reason to refuse. He was curious to visit the Immortal Valley, especially after Wan Chengfeng's introduction.
When they arrived near the teleportation array in the city square, they were immediately recognized by the manager there, as they hadn't disguised themselves this time. The manager's surprise was evident; after all, just a day ago, Jiang Fann's likeness had been displayed on a nearby wall.
In less than a day, everything had changed.
Wan Chengfeng directly informed the manager of their destination and paid the teleportation fee, though it was painful to part with so much money. The cost of using a large teleportation array was exorbitant.
Jiang Fann then realized that during their travels, Fang Xiang had always been the one covering the teleportation expenses. Coming from the Heaven Pavilion, Fang Xiang was undoubtedly the wealthiest of the three.
Wan Chengfeng remarked, "Looks like we'll need to find some good items to sell for Heaven Pavilion coins, or we won't even be able to afford a drink."
"Doesn't your Immortal Valley have a vast estate? How could you be short on funds?"
Wan Chengfeng replied, "Who said our Immortal Valley is wealthy? Unlike the Fire Melting Valley, where the elders often venture out and return with treasures, most of our predecessors who left never came back. It's a different situation for us. We mostly rely on ourselves and earn what we can."
After the teleportation array activated, the two were instantly pulled into the transport channel.
Jiang Fann remarked, "I find it hard to believe. According to what you said, the Valley of Immortals is backed by a restricted area, surely filled with endless treasures and resources. Who sits on a gold mine and claims to be poor?"
"You'll see when we get there. Besides, our Valley of Immortals isn't a large clan. Each generation has only a few people, and now there are just a few dozen of us. The restricted area has its limitations. With our clan's capabilities, we can only explore about ten percent of it."
Jiang Fann was always intrigued by the restricted areas. In the Nine Desolations, these places were nearly always life-threatening, mostly filled with defensive mechanisms left by powerful figures. The restricted areas in the Upper Nine Heavens were even more extreme, inhabited by formidable individuals. For instance, the master they encountered before, who was at the Celestial Being stage, resided in such a place. It was unclear why they couldn't leave or if there were other constraints.
This visit to the Valley of Immortals might offer more insight. Ordinary cultivation methods were no longer effective for him. He needed an epiphany or some unique approach to advance to the Mortal Separating Stage. This meant he couldn't improve his skills like other cultivators, who simply relied on seclusion.
Arriving at another royal city, as Wan Chengfeng mentioned, this was the Chen Tian Dynasty, ranked eighth in strength among the outer circles of the Upper Nine Heavens.
Through the portal in the royal city, they arrived at a small town. With ease and familiarity, Wan Chengfeng led Jiang Fann out of the city, heading straight toward the direction of the Immortal Valley. It would take them a few more days on foot.
...
The Vast World.
A year ago, the Golden Eyes Clan retreated from the public eye, closing all their businesses, causing unrest among the other clans. Initially, the royal families managed to maintain some semblance of order, but as various changes unfolded, chaos began to spread.
Six months ago, the young members of the recently revived Ancient God Clan vanished without a trace, plunging the various clans of the Vast World into a state of fear. Many royal families called their members back home, each seeking ways to cope with the changes in the natural order.
The mist over the chaotic lands gradually dissipated, and today, it seemed as if some kind of seal had been broken. The spiritual energy across the entire world suddenly surged, sweeping through every corner with overwhelming force.
Ordinarily, such a change would have been a cause for celebration among the clans' cultivators. Strangely, however, only the royal families were reveling outside, unrestrained by the absence of the ruling families. Over the past month, they have been rampaging without any rules, and some already brutal clans have become completely corrupted, with no one stepping in to stop them.
In the far south of the Vast World, a group of royal clans with pig-like heads and human bodies was currently storming into a village of another clan, their eyes bloodshot with frenzy. As they acted without restraint, a figure emerged from the forest within the village. It was a human-like cultivator, but instead of arms, he had a pair of silver wings.
The group of nobles rushed toward the figure, but with a simple wave of his wings, he unleashed a massive silver wind blade, instantly wiping out the entire village of nobles in a single move. Behind him, a dozen or so figures emerged, sharing almost identical features.
Seeing the bodies on the ground, they showed some disgust. The surviving villagers, upon seeing these beings, immediately knelt down, bowing repeatedly with eyes full of reverence.
"Welcome back, Ancestors..."
The leader of the humanoid beings sighed. "I didn't expect your branch to have weakened so much, being bullied by these worthless creatures. Clean this up quickly and find us in the forest. I'll open the sacred grounds to help you awaken your bloodline power. The other clans should be returning soon as well..."
Meanwhile, similar scenes were unfolding across the world, especially within the sacred grounds of some royal families. Once exalted royals were now gathered in the sacred grounds' plaza, quietly kneeling as if awaiting something to descend.
In the forbidden areas of some royal sacred grounds, the original master, Fusu, awoke from slumber. These beings were incredibly powerful, their presence overwhelming, with bloodline strength far surpassing that of the royal bloodlines.
The once chaotic world seemed to find a moment of peace on this day. Countless rebellious royals were wiped out, their entire clans effortlessly erased by powerful figures.
Originally, the Mortal Separating Stage was the pinnacle of this vast world, but now, experts with the aura of the Reincarnation Stage appeared. The natural order didn't suppress them, indicating that the world itself was evolving.
All of this pointed to one thing: the return of the Ancient God Clan!
In a secluded part of this vast world, deep within a canyon, enormous figures began to rise from the ground, surveying their surroundings. These were giants with silver hair and silver eyes. The nearby formations crumbled instantly under the influence of their spiritual strength.
There were over thirty of them, exchanging glances and smiles, clearly in high spirits. This group was familiar to Jiang Fann; they were the God Clan with the power to break arrays, but not the clan of Xiao Yue'er. They were her ancestors, the Ancient God Clan.
Among these giants was one with silver hair and golden eyes, the most powerful among them. Unlike the others, he wore a frown as he looked at his fellow clan members.
"Chief, why the long face?" someone asked.
The chief didn't respond directly but instead looked at the elder in front of him. "Elder, why is your aura so unstable?"
The God Clan member who had just spoken also noticed the elder's condition. Despite being at the Reincarnation Stage, his aura fluctuated, unlike the others.
The elder looked puzzled, carefully sensing before turning to the leader.
"I once created a spiritual body to guard this place while I slept, and now it's gone."
The leader replied, "How is that possible? That spiritual body should have part of your power and memories. How could anyone here eliminate it?"
"It's not destroyed, just vanished. I can still feel it's alive, but I can't pinpoint its location. It must have run away."
"Run away? Are you kidding? That's your spiritual body!"
The elder was clearly unsure of the situation. "Maybe over time, the spiritual body developed its own consciousness and erased mine, so it left."
The leader frowned. "Wouldn't that be a betrayal of our clan? It could also affect your abilities. Can you track it down? We need to bring it back and erase its consciousness to restore things."
The elder said, "Its spiritual aura is being disrupted by some force, so I can't figure it out right now. Once it appears in the world, I'll know."
Another clan member spoke up, "Could it have bonded with someone? Using a contract to hide its aura?"
The leader's expression darkened at the suggestion, clearly disapproving of such a method.
The elder had suspected this but hadn't mentioned it.
"I'll handle this myself. If it's true, I'd like to know who has the audacity to target me!" The leader's eyes flashed with a hint of menace. In a cold tone, he said, "This isn't just your problem. If anyone dares to enslave my clan, I'll wipe out their entire family..."
