He looked at the three of them. "You must have used the Yang Thunder Pearl to find this place, right?"
Jiang Fann nodded. "I do have the Yang Thunder Pearl. But when the cultivators of Nine Desolations caused a stir in the Upper Heavens, what else do you know about it?"
The wolfdog replied, "I'm just a demonic beast. There's no point in dwelling on who was right or wrong back then. Everyone had their own stance. I met some of those Nine Desolations folks—they weren't all bad. The three major clans did suppress them, affecting their status. To me, that battle had no real winner. Both sides lost. The three major clans disbanded, but the fate of those Nine Desolations cultivators probably wasn’t much better."
Jiang Fann said, "When I was in Nine Desolations, many cultivators still longed for the Upper Heavens. I visited the passage, but it's now completely sealed, likely by the Upper Heavens' methods."
The wolfdog responded, "That's not surprising. If the Nine Desolations cultivators threatened the Upper Heavens, the experts here wouldn't allow them easy access. But in doing so, the Upper Heavens also cut off their own future."
Jiang Fann was about to say something when a thought struck him. "Did those cultivators from the Nine Desolations establish sects here similar to the ones they had back there?"
"I think so, but I can't be entirely sure. I've never been to the Nine Desolations myself."
The old wolfdog, having lived through that era, managed to clear up many of Jiang Fann's doubts. "Do you know the names of those cultivators from back then?"
"No idea. If there are still cultivators on the mountain, maybe they could tell you. They know far more than I do."
Wan Chengfeng asked, "Besides you, is there any other promising demonic beast in this northern region? I could make it my spirit pet and take it with me."
He was clearly looking for a good demonic beast to serve as his companion.
The wolfdog shook its head. "There are indeed some demonic beasts gathered here, but without spiritual strength to sustain them, their intelligence doesn't matter. They'll eventually meet the same fate. Their life expectancy is better than that of wild beasts, but in a few generations, they'll likely disappear. But you might be overthinking things. Like me, you don't have much chance of leaving. If you had stayed on the other side of the barrier, you might have been fine. But now that you're here, just like me, your Qi Sea will eventually dry up, and you'll lose your life expectancy until you die of old age."
Jiang Fann replied, "You can't get across simply because you lack the means. Crossing the barrier isn't that difficult; it just requires some spiritual strength. It doesn't seem all that hard."
Upon hearing Jiang Fann's words, the guard dog was pleasantly surprised and quickly asked, "You guys can really go back?"
"Let's give it a try and see."
With that, Jiang Fann led Wancheng Feng and another person to the barrier. He activated his Qi Sea, and the refined spiritual strength instantly enveloped them. Just like before, Jiang Fann and his companions disappeared into the barrier, leaving the guard dog staring in astonishment as they successfully passed through.
It took a moment for the guard dog to snap out of it. "Hey, hey, hey! How come you went without me? I've had enough of this cursed place."
Jiang Fann replied, "We still need to take a detour through Thunder Sect. Bringing you along would be too risky."
The guard dog was taken aback, clearly not expecting such a response from Jiang Fann. However, it didn't get too upset, maintaining a calm demeanor. It watched them with a hint of excitement in its eyes, which Jiang Fann noticed despite the dog's attempts to hide it.
"You can leave first. I won't interfere with your plans. I understand you're wary of my abilities. But if you ever need help over at Thunder Sect, feel free to reach out. If you don't need my help, I hope you'll come back here one last time to take me away from this wretched place."
Wancheng Feng looked at Jiang Fann and said, "We don't really know its true capabilities. To it, we're just small fry. Plus, it knows you're from the Nine Desolations. If it leaves and causes trouble or turns against us, that would be a huge problem. I think it's best to leave it here for now."
Fang Xiang nodded in agreement, clearly resonating with the sentiment.
The wolfdog paused for a moment after hearing this. It understood well that missing this chance to leave might mean being trapped here indefinitely, possibly even until death. It was no different from being sealed away. More importantly, the depletion of its spiritual strength severely impacted its lifespan, and it certainly didn't want to die here in vain.
"I had no ill intentions towards you before. Otherwise, when that kid offended me, I could have easily dealt with him. You don't think I lack the ability, do you?" It was obviously referring to Fang Xiang.
Jiang Fann smirked, "If you hadn't shown goodwill, I wouldn't have been talking to you for so long. Do you really think we're that easy to handle just because we got in here?"
The wolfdog replied earnestly, "Consider it a deal or whatever you like, but you need to set some terms. I think we can have a good discussion. I'm not the most formidable, but befriending me wouldn't be a bad thing."
Wan Chengfeng suggested, "Pledge your loyalty! That's the safest bet. You can choose one of us three. Rest assured, we won't impose too many restrictions. All we need is your allegiance."
Clearly, he was eyeing the wolfdog, and it was indeed a good strategy. This creature was undoubtedly powerful, not just some minor beast. Having it by any of their sides would be a great advantage.

Upon hearing what Wan Chengfeng said, the wolfdog remained calm, as if it had already anticipated this outcome. However, it didn't agree immediately.
"Let me think it over for a few days. You can wait here, or you might want to check out Thunder Sect first. But make sure to come back here before you leave."
This time, Jiang Fann didn't refuse.
"Alright, we'll stop by before we head out."
With that, the three of them turned and left, not intending to discuss further with the wolfdog.
It's worth noting that if the wolfdog had caused trouble earlier, preventing them from passing through the barrier, they would have been at a loss, unless Jiang Fann used the Star River Cauldron. The wolfdog didn't mean any harm, but without a bond, who knows what might happen if they took it along? The three had to be cautious.
The wolfdog watched the two walk away, sighed, and stayed put, seemingly pondering its next move.
Wan Chengfeng said earnestly, "That beast is quite powerful. It would be great if we could make it a spirit companion."
Fang Xiang replied, "It seems possible, but I doubt it would choose me."
Jiang Fann added, "It's not that simple. That creature is smart and not from this era. It might not choose a master but could agree to other terms. We'll talk to it again when we return. It truly doesn't seem to mean us any harm."
Wan Chengfeng looked at Jiang Fann: "I really didn't expect what happened back then in the upper realms. I thought the Thunder Sect might have answers, but it was that creature who revealed it. Doesn't the Nine Desolations have any records of that history?"
Jiang Fann shook his head: "The situation in the Nine Desolations is more complicated. Civilizations have been destroyed several times, and I have no clue about what happened back then."
Suddenly, Fang Xiang spoke up: "Brother Jiang, I didn't dare say much with that guy around earlier. Do you remember the disappearance of those people around you?"
Hearing this, Jiang Fann's eyes lit up, immediately understanding Fang Xiang's point.
Back then, Fang Xiang had helped Jiang Fann investigate clues about those significant figures in the Heaven Pavilion, but they were warned by the higher-ups, and no clues were found.
"If that's the case, it seems to make sense."
Fang Xiang nodded: "Could those people be the Nine Desolations experts from back then? They might not be in the upper realms anymore but in other higher planes. So, you don't need to worry too much about their safety. They might be training under their ancestors now."
"Hopefully. But no matter who took them, I'll bring them back if I get the chance."
Wan Chengfeng was also in the secret realm that day and knew about the girls who used to be with Jiang Fann, so he understood what had happened.
The three of them had figured out the general situation here, and naturally, the next step was to head over to check out the Dry Thunder Sect. They weren't sure what to expect over there.
Jiang Fann cautioned the other two, "We need to be careful moving forward. The Dry Thunder Sect has hidden itself away, concealing the sect here and isolating it with barriers. They must have some backup plans in place."
"The Sun Thunder Pearl is in your possession. It should come in handy at a critical moment. Honestly, I'm not too worried about being in this secret realm. What concerns me more is the situation outside. If that master at the Heavenly Realm is waiting for us at the exit, we might not even have time to use the Great Shift Talisman before we're wiped out. Even the expert with you might not be able to protect us."
Jiang Fann, however, remained calm and said, "There's no need to worry about that. I have a way to handle it."
Though they didn't know where Jiang Fann's confidence came from, they had no choice but to trust him, as they couldn't fend off such a formidable figure themselves.
Thanks to the abundant spiritual energy here, the three of them could travel through the air, significantly cutting down their travel time. A journey that would have taken three days was completed in just half a day.
Returning to the spot where they entered the secret realm, they found themselves facing the mountain gate of the Dry Thunder Sect. This time, they didn't hesitate and walked straight towards it.
Their mood was entirely different from when they first arrived. Initially, they were worried about what they might encounter in the forbidden zone, but now they were completely at ease. As they approached the mountain gate, Jiang Fann sensed the barrier's presence blocking their path.
However, the barrier's power, unlike the force behind him, does not prevent the cultivator from passing through.
