C2556 Fang Xian's Choice
C2556 Fang Xian's Choice
Guo Xu, who had remained motionless even through the agony of having his flesh cut, clenched his fists at these words. Clearly, they struck a nerve.
At that moment, Jiang Fann was healing him and immediately sensed the shift in his emotions. Remaining focused, Jiang Fann communicated to him, "You've faced life and death. Why let a few words bother you? After I finish treating you, you should take some high-quality restorative herbs. You should be fully recovered in about three months."
"Thank you, Pharmacist Jiang Fann, for your life-saving help."
Jiang Fann replied, "No need to thank me, especially since you're paying for it. According to my calculations, once your internal injuries are fully healed, your cultivation level will drop to the first tier of the Mortal Separating Stage. That's not bad; it hardly affects your foundational skills. Although your Qi Sea has changed, it remains at the ninth tier of the Mortal Separating Stage, which will give you ample spiritual strength in future encounters. This experience has been a test for your mindset, and I believe you can progress even further."
"As long as I can live a few more years, I'm content. I'm not eager to regain my previous level."
"You're underestimating yourself. While your life expectancy has taken a hit, it's not severely impacted. My Natural Aura should sustain your recovery even without taking pills. However, in the coming months, you'll need to spend a lot on purchasing them. It's a pity I have other commitments; otherwise, I'd make a batch of pills just for you."
"Jiang Fann, I really admire your composure. You've upset some big shots and yet you remain unfazed. If it were me, I probably wouldn't be able to sleep."
"Upset? It's not like I went out of my way to cause them trouble. They brought it on themselves. Besides, as a cultivator, I'm used to facing life-and-death situations. Why should I be afraid of them?"
"If you ever need it, I'm willing to leave my family to support you."
"Haha, just having that thought is enough. No need to actually do it. I don't want to owe you a favor."
Jiang Fann spoke directly, without beating around the bush, and Guo Xu didn't feel offended at all. Without saying more, Jiang Fann continued to help him heal his injuries.
...
Heaven Pavilion, Library.
For the past two days, Fang Xiang had been searching here for clues about the Thunder Sect, hoping to be of help this time. But after two days, he hadn't found a single lead. There were very few records from that era, and he couldn't figure out why.
This Heaven Pavilion is one of the largest in the kingdom, with a vast collection of books, many brought back from secret realms. Unfortunately, he hadn't found what he needed.
Just then, a girl came bouncing over to Fang Xiang.
"Fang Xiang, my master wants to see you."
Fang Xiang looked at her, a bit puzzled.
"Why does he want to see me now? I'm really busy. Can we reschedule? I'll bring him a nice bottle of wine next time."
The girl shook her head firmly. "Don't joke around. You should go right away. If my mentor is asking for you, it's definitely important."
Though a bit reluctant, Fang Xiang followed her out of the library, and together they headed to her mentor's place. The girl and Fang Xiang had been on adventures together before and had known each other since childhood. Their mentors had a good relationship, so they kept in touch regularly.
When they arrived at the mentor's house, they walked right in. Inside, an elderly man with white hair was sipping tea. Seeing Fang Xiang, he gestured for him to sit across from him. The girl poured Fang Xiang a cup of tea and then stood by the old man's side.
Fang Xiang took a sip of the tea and offered some compliments before speaking up. "What can I do for you, sir? As long as it's not taking this girl on another adventure, I'm up for anything."
Hearing this, the girl stuck her tongue out at him, clearly displeased. Her mentor, however, didn't seem upset, indicating that something had happened between them before.
He spoke, "This isn't about sending you on another adventure. It's about something else, related to your recent schedule."
At this, Fang Xiang furrowed his brow, clearly thinking of something. "Jiang Fann?"
The old man nodded. "It seems you already know something. You're right; it's because of that young man. I've heard about what happened in the Dynasty, and your mentor has also received the news. He instructed me to keep you here once I saw you. You can't keep hanging around with that young man; there are some people you shouldn't cross right now."
The two of them watched Fang Xiang closely, clearly curious about his reaction. To their surprise, Fang Xiang remained completely calm, not bothered by what they said.
"What if I refuse? My mentor can't just come here and drag me away, can he?"
The old man looked puzzled. "You used to listen to your mentor so well. Why are you being so stubborn this time? Do you think we can't see the situation clearly?"
Fang Xiang replied, "Jiang Fann is a troublemaker by nature. He attracts trouble because of his abilities. If he were an ordinary person, he wouldn't be able to get involved with those big shots. But you've all missed one thing: his name is Jiang Fann."
With that, Fang Xiang stood up and said to the old man, "Among my peers, whether I can catch up to those prodigies depends entirely on the choices I make next. There's no need to persuade me, sir. I've made up my mind."
The old man was clearly puzzled, surprised that Fang Xiang had completely rejected his goodwill.

After Fang Xiang left, the girl couldn't help but ask, "Master, will Fang Xiang really get into trouble because of this? Isn't the second prince of the Suetian Dynasty being a bit too overbearing?"
"Trouble is inevitable. Unfortunately, this kid is as stubborn as his master. Once he's set on something, he won't turn back, and he won't discuss it with us anymore."
"But why did Fang Xiang emphasize that person's name twice? Was he trying to tell us something?"
The old man paused at her question, then quickly realized something. He got up and went to the desk, picked up a piece of spiritual jade, and infused it with his energy. The jade glowed, projecting a beam of light that formed lines of text in the air—a list.
The girl recognized it immediately, her face full of surprise. "Isn't this the legendary Starsea List? The one that records all the geniuses?"
The old man nodded and began to carefully search from the last name on the list. When he reached the 90th position, Jiang Fann's name appeared, plunging them both into silence. They were utterly shocked, clearly not expecting to see Jiang Fann's name on the ranking.
The last time a genius from the Upper Nine Heavens appeared on the Starsea List was two hundred years ago with Wan Chengfeng, who was hailed as a once-in-a-millennium talent. He only ranked three-hundredth back then. But this mysterious Jiang Fann is ranked ninetieth, a significant leap from three hundred. The old man stared intently at the name, puzzled, "Could it just be a coincidence? With so many people in the world, it's not unusual for names to repeat."
The girl recalled Fang Xiang's reaction earlier and gently shook her head. "Fang Xiang wouldn't exaggerate. This concerns his own path, so he wouldn't lie. But what if Jiang Fann's name is really on the list? Are we supposed to keep him here for research?"
The old man became more serious, "If the one ranked ninetieth is indeed him, then I agree with Fang Xiang staying by his side. It can only benefit him. That boy's persistence is justified."
The girl still seemed skeptical. "Ninetieth place, not even ninth. It's not that impressive. His cultivation is only at the fifth level of the Dao Understanding Stage. How strong can he be?"
"You don't get it. The Starsea List isn't something we from the Upper Nine Heavens compile. It's recognized across all higher realms. Look at Jiang Fann's notes from back then; he was only at the Divine Dharma Stage. He's much stronger now. If someone from a higher realm comes to test him, his ranking would only go up. Wan Chengfeng was considered a once-in-a-millennium genius and only reached three hundred. Comparing Jiang Fann's ranking should give you an idea of his strength."
"How did Brother Fang Xiang get to know such a powerful person? And why haven't we heard of him before? Anyone who makes it onto the Starsea List should have shown themselves to the world by now."
The old man sighed, "Maybe it wasn't in a place we're familiar with, like some kind of trial. Fang Xiang might have met him during one of those. But one thing's for sure, you don't need to worry too much about Fang Xiang's safety."
The girl was puzzled, "Why do you say that?"
"Anyone ranked that high on the Starsea List is definitely not ordinary. At the very least, he has strong survival skills. If our Nine Heavens cultivators try to mess with him, it might not end well for them, including that second prince from the Zui Dynasty. After all, he's not the king yet."
The girl suggested, "Should we report Jiang Fann's identity? A genius like him could be a great asset to our Nine Heavens Pavilion. Maybe with Brother Fang Xiang's introduction, he'd be willing to join us."
The old man shook his head, "Let's not pursue that idea. Those young talents on the list will eventually move on. It's not worth investing our resources in him. You can't expect him to reach the Heavenly Realm and then come back to protect the Nine Heavens Pavilion."
"Besides, it's best not to provoke such a genius. Fang Xiang didn't even tell his master about him, so he must have his reasons. We should stay out of it. However, I will inform his master about this. What that old monster decides to do is none of my concern."
