C2554 A Disaster Came from the Mouth
Another practitioner replied, "Don't oversimplify things. It's said that Wan Chengfeng didn't say a word all day. He's always been a lone wolf. Making friends with him is really tough."
As evening approached, Jiang Fann suddenly erased the words he'd written in the air. He then addressed the practitioners still waiting in line, "The consultations are over for today. Come back early tomorrow!"
Some of the practitioners who had come from afar were understandably upset upon hearing this, but Jiang Fann ignored them. He picked up the pills from the stall and left with Wan Chengfeng. The practitioners in line had no choice but to disperse, some leaving with a hint of frustration but unable to do anything about it.
Wan Chengfeng noticed the state of the practitioners and, after leaving the trading area, remarked to Jiang Fann, "You really showed off your skills today. That kind of attention could make you a target."
"Isn't that the point? If someone wants me to make an appearance, I might as well oblige."
Though unsure of Jiang Fann's reasoning, Wan Chengfeng didn't press further, and they each went their separate ways to rest.
The next morning, Wan Chengfeng arrived at the trading area before Jiang Fann and was surprised to find an old man sitting cross-legged at their stall from the previous day. He hadn't set out any items, and while his cultivation level was similar to Wan Chengfeng's, his energy seemed scattered and intermittent.
It seemed as if the old man sensed Wan Chengfeng's presence, as he suddenly opened his eyes and looked over.
"Finally, you're here. Where's Jiang Fann, the healer? I've been holding this spot for you all night. You better put me first on the list today."
The old man was clearly in a hurry, which caught Wan Chengfeng a bit off guard. However, it saved him the trouble of finding another stall.
"He might still be asleep. You can wait here, but let me be clear: Jiang Fann can only heal injuries, not extend life expectancy. Your situation seems..."
He didn't finish his sentence because, to him, it looked like the old man was nearing the end of his life, not just injured.
The old man gave a wry smile and said, "My situation isn't about life expectancy. I'm barely a hundred years old, not even as old as you, the genius of the valley."
Wan Chengfeng was surprised to hear this. He hadn't expected the man in front of him to be so young, especially since he'd been trapped in the ant nest for over two hundred years.
"At such an age, reaching the peak of the Mortal Separating Stage is far beyond your peers. How did you end up like this?"
The man looked a bit helpless. "If my problem can't be solved, I really won't live much longer."
Wan Chengfeng replied, "I'm not a healer. Wait for him to come and take a look."
With that, Wan Chengfeng sat down nearby, and although the man was eager to be treated, he remained silent, waiting patiently to show his sincerity.
After about half an hour, Jiang Fann appeared in the distance, holding some warm buns and clearly in a good mood. The past couple of days had been quite relaxing, and treating illnesses and injuries was something he genuinely enjoyed. Unfortunately, yesterday didn't present any particularly challenging cases for him.
Seeing Wan Chengfeng already at yesterday's spot was a bit of a surprise for Jiang Fann.
"You've got some skills, managing to snag this spot two days in a row."
Wan Chengfeng just shook his head. "It's not me. He camped out here all night, waiting for you to treat him."
The cultivator nearby couldn't hide his delight upon seeing Jiang Fann.
"Pharmacist Jiang, my name is Guo Xu. I'm not long for this world. I've been searching for five years, but no one can heal me. I've visited every kingdom and sect, but luckily I found you here. I hope you can take a look."
Guo Xu was very polite, and his condition was far more severe than Wan Chengfeng's. At least Wan Chengfeng's life expectancy wasn't affected.
Jiang Fann just glanced at him, raising an eyebrow.
"A hundred-year lifespan? You're at the peak of the Mortal Separating Stage, yet you're worse off than an ordinary person!"
Wan Chengfeng looked utterly shocked, as he wouldn't have guessed Guo Xu's age if he hadn't mentioned it. Guo Xu looked no different from an elderly man nearing the end of his days.
Jiang Fann was surprised that Guo Xu could immediately guess his age. The last time someone had done that, it was an immortal herbalist who had lived for countless years. But the person in front of him was clearly young.
Guo Xu spoke up, "I used to have no issues with my life expectancy. Before I turned eighty, I was no different from my fellow cultivators. It's only due to some special circumstances that I'm in this situation now."
Though Guo Xu was eager, Jiang Fann didn't rush to examine him. Instead, he said, "Hold on a moment. Let me set up my booth first."
Jiang Fann couldn't forget his main task, even though he was intrigued by Guo Xu's condition. It wasn't his first encounter with such a case, but the previous person only appeared old without significant damage to their life expectancy.
After speaking, Jiang Fann, just like the day before, used his spiritual strength to mark a few words in the air, making them stand out clearly.
Guo Xu waited patiently. Given his current state, he was calm and composed. Despite Jiang Fann's youth, his ability to discern Guo Xu's age suggested he had some extraordinary qualities.
Because of yesterday's consultations, many cultivators came by, some out of curiosity and others wanting to connect with Wan Chengfeng.
At that moment, a well-dressed cultivator approached from a distance. Jiang Fann recognized him as the manager of the Drunken Immortal Pavilion, the same person who had stopped Wan Chengfeng from entering the day before.
He walked straight over to Miles, leaned in, and said quietly, "Mr. Miles, our manager would like to see you for a moment."
Miles opened his eyes, glanced at him, and replied directly, "She wants to see me? I'm here with friends, busy with the stand. I can't go."
The assistant was a bit taken aback, clearly not expecting that response from Miles. He whispered something else, but Miles, after listening, said nothing and closed his eyes, continuing his meditation.
The assistant, though in a bit of a bind, couldn't do much else but shake his head and walk away.
Not far off, the manager appeared, having obviously learned the outcome from the assistant. Her brow furrowed, she approached the stand, ignoring Jack, who was nearby.
She focused on Miles, who was deep in meditation. "What do you want? I'm worried about you!"
Jack, seeing the situation, casually pulled up a chair and plopped down, watching the two with an amused expression.
Miles opened his eyes and looked at the manager with a determined gaze. "You should go back."
What the manager said next shocked everyone present, even catching Jack off guard. "Even though we're not together anymore, you've been gone for two hundred years. I'm worried something might be wrong. Jack has upset some powerful people, and being with him could bring trouble your way. Even if the valley can protect you, do you really want to hide there forever?"
Jiang Fann never expected that while he was enjoying the drama, he'd suddenly become part of it himself. The surrounding cultivators exchanged glances, equally surprised.
Someone whispered, "That woman is the manager of the Drunken Immortal Pavilion, with a significant background. Anyone she considers important is really something..."
"What did Jiang Fann do to get on someone's bad side? And he still dares to show off here! Is he hiding out in this royal city?"
The crowd buzzed with speculation.
Wan Chengfeng didn't care about the chatter and said directly, "Trouble? Without him, I'd still be stuck in a hopeless situation. Even if he offended a prince, or even the emperor, what does it matter? We're no longer connected, so it won't affect you."
Hearing this, Jiang Fann couldn't help but laugh and said, "Brother Wan, you're really spilling all my secrets here. Why drag me into your old flame's conversation?"
Despite his words, Jiang Fann's smile was genuine. His main goal for setting up shop was to attract the attention of the second prince of the Sui Tian Dynasty. He was worried he hadn't been obvious enough, but the beautiful manager of the Drunken Immortal Pavilion had unexpectedly helped him out, spreading the news far and wide.
Everyone present fell silent, looking at Jiang Fann in surprise—not because he had offended the second prince, but because of what he had just said. Even Wan Chengfeng frowned slightly.
The beautiful manager glared at Jiang Fann, "Do you have a death wish?"
Just as Jiang Fann was puzzled, Guo Xu's voice suddenly echoed in his mind. "Pharmacist Jiang, this manager is the fiancée of the second prince of the Zhongtian Empire..."
Jiang Fann never imagined such a coincidence. No wonder the surrounding cultivators had those expressions; there was more to the story than he realized.
The manager's eyes even flashed with a hint of murderous intent, showing how angry she was. Jiang Fann's words didn't affect her much, but they could bring significant trouble to Wan Chengfeng, far more than he had already caused.
She looked at Wan Chengfeng and said, "Tell your friend to watch his mouth. Words can bring trouble."
With that, she turned and left, fearing that staying longer would only invite more issues. She had already warned Wan Chengfeng, and despite her anger, she understood her current position.
Jiang Fann wasn't too worried. At this point, offending one prince or two made little difference to him.
Because of the recent incident, the cultivators who had been eagerly lining up for Jiang Fann's healing services suddenly hesitated. Unlike Wan Chengfeng, not everyone was unafraid of attracting trouble.
Guo Xu didn't care at all and went straight to Jiang Fann, hoping he could take a look at him first. With his life expectancy running out, whether trouble would come his way was the least of his concerns.
This time, Jiang Fann didn't refuse, as he had already achieved his goal for the trip. Now, it was just a matter of letting time do its work.
The onlookers, other cultivators, didn't leave. They were puzzled by how relaxed Jiang Fann seemed, completely unfazed by what the woman had said.
Jiang Fann asked Guo Xu to sit down. He needed to assess his condition before deciding on the treatment. Jiang Fann channeled his spiritual strength into Guo Xu, using his spiritual sense to explore his meridians and Qi Sea, intending to identify the problem first.
