Reborn Medicine King

C2549 The Precious Pearl

C2549 The Precious Pearl

0Squeak, squeak, squeak—

A swarm of mice charged directly at Jiang Fann, trying to block his path. But as soon as they touched the red glow surrounding him, they ignited instantly, turning to dust in a flash. The intense heat seemed to set even the surrounding space ablaze, causing a slight distortion.

At that moment, the purple-furred mouse sensed a threat—Jiang Fann's power was a danger it had never felt before. For the first time, it realized Jiang Fann could destroy it.

Raising its front paw, the purple gem in its palm suddenly burst with light. The arcs of electricity from the surrounding mice were absorbed by this power, and a bolt of lightning shot out, aimed directly at Jiang Fann.

However, the lightning was split in mid-air, cut in two by the God-Slaying Blade, which was imbued with the sharpness of immortal gold. Coupled with Jiang Fann's awakened divine blood, his combat strength had reached a formidable level, enough to face the purple-furred mouse. Its strength lay in attack, not defense, and it couldn't channel its spiritual strength for protection.

The God-Slaying Blade swung toward its head. If possible, Jiang Fann wanted to end it in one strike, giving it no chance to retaliate. After all, the opponent was not weak. With the thunder pool protecting Fang Xiang, Jiang Fann had to face it alone, requiring careful precision. And like a lion hunting a rabbit, he wouldn't hold back.

The purple-furred rat reacted swiftly, realizing the lightning magic hadn't stopped it, and turned to flee. The swarm of rats surged toward Jiang Fann but couldn't get close, yet they obscured the purple rat's figure, aiding its escape into the underground passage.

Jiang Fann charged in confidently, knowing he was faster than his opponent. Despite the tunnel being filled with rats, they didn't slow him down. He quickly locked onto the purple rat's presence again. Using the Chapter of Body Arts, a flash of red light streaked by as Jiang Fann appeared behind the rat demon. His blade radiated intense heat, and with the power of the Great Arts of Five Elements, he slashed, causing a series of explosions that collapsed the already unstable passage. The purple rat was engulfed in flames.

Jiang Fann pursued, diving into the fire. Suddenly, a bolt of lightning struck, forcing him to dodge. The injured purple rat used this moment to dart into a side tunnel. Jiang Fann immediately followed, red light flickering as it spread out, marking his domain.

The purple rat sensed the change around it, and in the next instant, Jiang Fann's figure mysteriously appeared in front of it, blocking its path. He swung his blade again. The rat tried to react, but its movements were much slower than usual.

He planned to use the purple orb again to defend himself, but this time he only managed to start the motion. Before he could even unleash his lightning technique, the long sword had already severed his arm. The arm, along with the purple orb, fell to the ground in an instant.

He tried to grab it with his other claw, but Jiang Fann swiftly snatched the fallen orb away. Meanwhile, the two people trapped by the lightning barrier suddenly felt its power rapidly weakening. It shattered, and the energy dissipated. They exchanged incredulous glances, as the mist was still there, but the sound of the lightning had ceased. They had no idea what had just happened.

"Did that kid really take care of it? What kind of power does he have?" Unfortunately, no one could answer that question.

In the passageway, Jiang Fann felt his energy surging. After securing the orb, he dispersed the field. The purple-furred creature, realizing it couldn't reclaim its treasure, picked up its severed claw and turned to flee, not daring to stay in front of Jiang Fann any longer. It feared Jiang Fann might suddenly strike, and a single blow could be the end of it.

Holding the orb, Jiang Fann sensed the arcs of electricity above it. It was a unique spiritual treasure of unknown quality, but it certainly seemed extraordinary.

Jiang Fann decided not to continue chasing the purple-furred rat. He turned back the way he came, satisfied with his prize in hand. The fate of that rodent didn't concern him.

Examining the orb in his hand, he released his spiritual strength to sense its power. To his surprise, unlike the usual spiritual treasures he encountered, this one had no visible patterns or engravings, and its energy seemed to emanate from within.

Jiang Fann was puzzled. "Is this really a spiritual treasure?"

"I'll have to find a place to study it later," he thought to himself. He tucked the orb into his Hundred Treasures Bag and headed to the surface.

Perhaps due to the earlier escape of the purple-furred rat, the other rats' eyes returned to normal, and they kept their distance from Jiang Fann, no longer exhibiting their previous frenzy. Ignoring them, Jiang Fann ascended into the sky.

Soon, he spotted Fang Xiang, who looked worried and was still cautiously scanning the surroundings, not straying from his position.

Seeing Jiang Fann return, Fang Xiang visibly relaxed. "I'm glad you're back. Did you really take care of that creature?"

Jiang Fann first retracted the thunder pool into his body, then waved his hand to dispel the Medicine King Realm around them. As the mist cleared, sunlight poured down from above, and the oppressive dark clouds had already dispersed.

At this moment, the ground was dotted with holes and a few rat carcasses. The once dense swarm of rats had burrowed underground, clearly following the purple-furred rat in retreat.

On the edge of the Medicine King Realm, two figures cautiously approached. As the mist cleared, they paused in surprise, spotting Jiang Fann and his companion.

They had just witnessed the dispersal of the dark cloud and the retreat of the rat swarm, which emboldened them to investigate. They speculated that Jiang Fann had dealt with the rat demon; otherwise, the situation wouldn't be as it was.

Seeing Jiang Fann and his friend unharmed, the two figures flew over, intending to greet them.

However, Jiang Fann wasn't particularly fond of them, especially the drunkard, who had schemed against them along the way, clearly up to no good.

Jiang Fann was straightforward, looking directly at the drunkard and getting straight to the point.

"Stop causing us trouble in the future."

With that, he intended to leave with Fang Xiang, clearly not wanting any further interaction.

The drunkard didn't argue. After all, he hadn't only tricked Jiang Fann and his friend; most of the young people who came here had been deceived by him.

"Hey, don't leave just yet. We're here to thank you. We hope that after this, you can let bygones be bygones and let the past drift away."

Fang Xiang said, "If you don't plot against us, we won't make things difficult for you. Take care of yourself."

"Of course, I won't scheme against you. I have something to warn you about. Not long ago, in the capital, someone was looking into your affairs. I caught wind of it too. Aren't you curious about who it is?"

The drunkard's words caught Jiang Fann and his companion off guard. Fang Xiang had also heard about this recently but didn't know who was investigating them.

This drunkard had been hanging around the capital for a while, so he might have noticed something. And since experts were involved, the identity of the person behind it wasn't a secret.

Seeing the two stop, the drunkard smiled and got straight to the point. "Although those experts aren't well-known in the Jian Dynasty, I know who they are. They're the personal guards of the second prince from the Sui Dynasty. They stay by his side and aren't under anyone else's command. In other words, the second prince of the Sui Dynasty is looking into your identities."

Jiang Fann didn't seem too surprised and simply nodded at him. "Thanks for the heads-up."

With that, he and Fang Xiang flew off in another direction.

The drunkard watched Jiang Fann leave and sighed, "That kid is too calm, didn't even give me a chance to say more."

The middle-aged expert spoke up, "Now's not the time for that. We should think about our next move. Are we staying here?"

"I'm not sure if that rat was taken care of. If it's still alive, this place is as dangerous as any hazard zone, and there's no point in continuing. The rats have probably tunneled all over the place. They might have mutated because of the crystal's aura. If there's a vein here, the rat swarm would control it. It's too risky for our people to stay. We might as well give up and find another way to locate the vein."

"That's really unfortunate. We've already wasted over three years here. Should we try to go down and take a look? Maybe that young guy already dealt with the rat king, and it's not so dangerous anymore."

"That was just an evolved rat. Even if it was killed, another one will likely take its place soon, and it won't be much weaker. Just the ability to gather the other rats' power makes it almost unbeatable."

Though they both felt it was a shame, they decided to leave and meet up with their disciples elsewhere. They didn't want to go through that situation again.

Meanwhile, Fang Xiang followed behind Jiang Fann, making sure those two weren't following. Only then did he speak up.

"I couldn't say much with them around earlier. How much do you trust that drunkard's words?"

Jiang Fann was in a pretty good mood after obtaining the treasure. He chuckled, "Before, I wouldn't have believed it for a second. But since he reached out to me for help, sharing some information isn't a big deal. Are we in big trouble? The second prince of the Sui Dynasty must hold a pretty high position, right?"

Fang Xiang gave a wry smile, "High doesn't even begin to cover it. Even my role as a manager in the Nine Heavens Pavilion doesn't mean much in front of him. If we've really crossed him, we better be on guard. That guy never lets things slide and always gets even. It's a hassle."

"No worries, knowing his identity is enough. If he keeps coming after us, we'll make sure he pays the price."

Fang Xiang had a lot more to say, but he couldn't bring himself to speak. From what he remembered, the second prince of the Sui Dynasty was the kind of person who never let a grudge go and wouldn't stop until he got what he wanted. If he already knew who they were, he'd likely make a move soon.
