C2535 Excellent Harvest
C2535 Excellent Harvest
"Having lived in this dangerous place for so long, do you know much about the area?"
The rogue cultivator shook his head decisively.
"If I had that kind of ability, I would have snuck away a long time ago. I've been cultivating here for forty years and never dared to leave. Normally, there are three demonic beasts living near this small mountain, all at the seventh level or higher. To them, I'm probably no more significant than an ant."
He continued, "I've told you everything I know, sir. Can you let me go? I promise I won't bother you again."
Jiang Fann looked at him coldly, not responding immediately.
After a moment, he spoke slowly.
"You might not know about the outside, but you should know about the inside of this mountain, right? If there's anything valuable here, get up and take me to it. No tricks."
The rogue cultivator stood up and said to Jiang Fann, "I know every corner of this mountain, but the holy beast didn't leave much behind, just some important materials for its descendants. As a rogue cultivator, those things are useless to me, but I've gathered them all together. I'll take you there now."
He led the way, explaining the mountain's interior as they went, while Jiang Fann followed silently.
Besides the large space at the entrance, the mountain had many tunnels, though it was unclear who had dug them.
The array on the wall was carved by the dark practitioner standing before him, who had poured considerable effort into it over the years. This guy seemed cooperative enough, addressing Jiang Fann as "Sir" due to the Devil God Spell, assuming Jiang Fann was also a dark practitioner.
After a moment, Jiang Fann asked, "Why does your bone palm technique have such immense power? It seems to exceed the Mortal Separating Stage. With your level of cultivation, you shouldn't be able to wield such a powerful bone technique."
The dark practitioner replied, "That power isn't entirely mine. To be precise, it comes from the bones themselves. I acquired them years ago while exploring an ancient giant's tomb. That clan was born with incredible strength, but unfortunately, I only managed to obtain this pair of hands."
Jiang Fann had to reassess this dark practitioner. From his words, it was clear he had a peculiar fascination with tombs, which explained why other sects were hunting him down—it was truly against the natural order.
The dark practitioner led Jiang Fann to the end of a corridor, where there was a tightly closed door, etched with array patterns. He opened the door and respectfully said to Jiang Fann, "Sir, all the materials from the holy beast are stored here. They are now yours."
Jiang Fann extended his spiritual sense and found a wealth of items from the fire qilin inside. Just the shed scales alone formed a small pile, far more than what he had obtained earlier.
Jiang Fann didn't think twice as he stepped through the door, collecting everything inside the space. It was another substantial gain. Suddenly, the door slammed shut, and the spiritual energy around Jiang Fann began to swirl. Runes appeared, and the entire room seemed to transform into a seal, quickly draining the spiritual energy within.
Despite the complex array around him, Jiang Fann remained calm. From outside the door, the voice of the sinister cultivator echoed, dripping with mockery.
"Who would've thought a young kid like you would possess a celestial weapon? Too bad you're a bit foolish. Once you're trapped and gone, everything will be mine. Don't worry, I'll make sure your body is put to good use as a puppet! Ha ha ha..."
Jiang Fann stood his ground, unfazed, and replied calmly, "You have a decent bone structure and some talent in array techniques, but your life is too short. I was going to spare you, but it seems I was too merciful."
The sinister cultivator laughed loudly at this. "Who's the one with a short life now? The spiritual energy in the seal will soon be gone. With your Dao Understanding Stage lifespan, how long can you last? You think you can take my life?"
Jiang Fann replied calmly, "Is it that hard?"
"You've just been sealed here. You can't be losing your mind already, can you? In this seal, you think you can defeat me? I'm right here, come and get me! Ha ha ha..."
Jiang Fann held up three fingers and said, "I'll give you three last words."
"You really are crazy!"
Jiang Fann lowered one finger. "You have two left. Choose wisely."
"Not worth my time. I'll deal with you when you're dead."
As he turned to leave, Jiang Fann lowered another finger.
"One left."
"Trying to scare me?"
But as soon as he spoke, he felt the world spin. Suddenly, he saw a headless figure standing before him, with a slender figure behind it, a fingertip pressed against the neck, a drop of blood lingering there.
His training at the Mortal Separating Stage kept him conscious long enough to recognize the headless figure as himself. The woman behind him, her expression cold, sent a wave of spiritual energy toward his head, plunging him into endless darkness.
Thud—
The headless body collapsed, life quickly draining away, beyond saving.
The woman was none other than Xiao Mo, who had dealt with the Fire Qilin's remains. She had been tracking Jiang Fann all along.
Before Jiang Fann passed through the door, he sensed Xiao Mo's presence, which is why he took the treasure without hesitation. Unfortunately, the evil practitioner, worlds apart from Xiao Mo's level, never sensed her. Even with a hundred chances, he wouldn't have dared to target Jiang Fann. But regrets don't change fate, and Jiang Fann, intent on killing, wouldn't give him another chance.

Lin Zhan was still outside. Jiang Fann asked Xiao Mo to communicate with Lin Zhan, effortlessly breaking the seal on the door. Jiang Fann stepped out without even glancing at the bodies on the ground.
Xiao Mo chuckled softly at Jiang Fann, "Master, I never thought you'd end up trapped in a seal."
"With you nearby, what do I have to worry about? Did you take care of the fire qilin's body?"
Xiao Mo nodded. "It was just a mindless puppet, controlled by that worthless dark sorcerer. It was no match for me. I simply severed their connection, and it stopped moving on its own. Once I refine it, it'll truly be a transformation from decay to wonder."
"It was a holy beast in life, so don't go making any reckless changes."
"Don't worry. In my hands, it'll be far better off than with those dark sorcerers. If I'm lucky, I might even awaken some of its memories, which could bring you some unexpected surprises."
After retrieving Lin Zhan, Jiang Fann and Xiao Mo left the small mountain, and everything outside returned to normal. The mountain slowly merged back together, looking just as it did before.
Jiang Fann had Xiao Mo return to the hidden realm, then took out Fang Xiang's Spirit Attached Jade to determine his location, finding that he had been stationary in the same spot for quite some time.
The beasts that went out should reach the danger zone within half an hour, so time is of the essence.
As Jiang Fann hurried toward Fang Xiang's location, he couldn't find him. For some reason, Fang Xiang had set up a concealment barrier and was hiding inside it. According to their previous agreement, Fang Xiang was supposed to call for help if he ran into trouble. Yet, he remained silent, seemingly unbothered by any issues.
Jiang Fann didn't approach directly; he needed to figure out what was happening. Fang Xiang was a cautious person and must have his reasons.
Before long, a demonic beast appeared near the distant woods, as if searching for something, constantly surveying its surroundings. The beast was a black panther, at the eighth level of the Mortal Separating Stage, moving like a gust of black wind, its presence formidable.
This creature must have returned early or never left, sensing Fang Xiang's presence and now searching for him. With Fang Xiang's skills, slipping away quietly wouldn't be a problem. He must have discovered something significant to stay here.
Using the Spirit Attached Jade, Jiang Fann communicated, "What's going on? Are you cornered by that beast?"
Fang Xiang, able to pinpoint Jiang Fann's location through the jade, replied, "That beast can't corner me. If it weren't for the inheritance I spotted, I'd have been long gone."
"Legacy? Where exactly?"
Fang Xiang pointed out, "See the forest up ahead? It's about thirty yards in."
With the hint, Jiang Fann shifted his position and looked toward the forest. Right in the area where the demonic beast roamed, there stood a stone monument engraved with a lifelike qilin. The entire monument seemed to be ablaze, with clear fluctuations of spiritual strength emanating from it.
"Are you sure that's the legacy?"
Fang Xiang quickly replied, "Absolutely sure. I took a closer look earlier. There's a formation above it. According to what's recorded, after the Fire Qilin descends, it comes here to receive the legacy, which includes ancestral memories and cultivation methods. It's definitely meant for that little guy."
He then eagerly asked Jiang Fann, "Do you think if we got the holy beast's legacy, we'd gain some benefits? It'd be great if I could master the Fire Arts, and then I could share insights with Zhu Ying..."
Jiang Fann retorted, "You're dreaming big. This legacy is meant for the descendants of the holy beast. If we receive it, we might get some spiritual strength, but the cultivation methods are probably out of reach. Besides, there's not enough time before the demonic beast returns."
As Fang Xiang watched the legacy slip away without having the time to accept it, he felt a bit frustrated. After all, he had been guarding it for a long time.
Jiang Fann consoled him, "Since this legacy is meant for that little guy, it fulfills the wishes of the one you care about."
While Fang Xiang was still wrestling with his thoughts, the distant roar of a beast echoed through the perilous area, clear to everyone around. Jiang Fann and Fang Xiang knew well that the beasts that had wandered off were returning.
The roaming beasts, upon hearing the roar, immediately dashed toward the source of the sound, vanishing from the duo's sight in an instant.
As expected, they were likely going to welcome the return of their new leader. To these beasts, the newly born fire qilin was of great significance, akin to a young master in their realm.
